22-23 Starting Information

There will be a choir parent meeting on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 6:30pm in the GOHS Auditorium. We realize this is the night after in person Open House but we will be discussing all of the choir information, booster information, possible spring trip information, passing out the choir calendar and handbook, and answering questions you may have for the upcoming school year. (10 minutes of open house is not enough time)

Parents will check in by initialing next to their student’s name on attendance rosters. This is to know who was in attendance and to let us know which students will need to receive the handbook and calendar in class to bring home.

Chamber Singers:

The roster of students that auditioned and made Chamber Singers for 22-23 will be posted here and on the Instagram (@grandoakschoir) on Monday mid-morning. Any student on the roster that cannot commit to the requirements below will need to e-mail Mr. Smith by Friday, August 5 so your spot can be replaced. We understand that the requirements stated below may not be doable by all in the ensemble and that is okay. Though you will be removed from Chamber Singers, you will still be in either A Cappella or Statesmen during the school day.

Chamber Singers Requirements:
– Most rehearsals will be on Monday evenings from 5:30 – 7:00 pm in the choir room (a detailed rehearsal schedule will be out when school begins)
– Depending on holidays/concerts/etc some rehearsals may be moved earlier or to a different date. This will be on the calendar specifically for Chamber Singers.
– Students that frequently arrive to rehearsal late will be removed from the ensemble.
– You must notify Mr. Smith 24 hours in advance if you are going to miss a rehearsal. Students that fail to make contact and miss rehearsal will only be allowed 2 unexcused rehearsals and will then be removed from the ensemble.
– Students that miss frequently even with contact, may be removed from the ensemble.
– As a member of the top ensemble you will perform at pep rally’s, concerts, and extra events.
– We will be traveling to San Antonio March 3-4, 2023 for Madrigal Festival. This is a required trip for the ensemble. Information on this trip and the cost will be out when school begins.
– Members of this ensemble must maintain academic eligibility. Failure can result in removal.
– Members of this ensemble will not have discipline issues in any class.

CISD All State Clinic

Friday, July 29 from 10 am to 12 pm there will be an All State Clinic at Oak Ridge High School 9th grade campus (The clinic will now be at Irons JH located off of 242). Students will be able to start learning the repertoire for the first round of auditions. If you need music, the directors will have extra packets with them. Bring water and a pencil!

GO Flags 4th of July

GO Flags has our last placements for the 2021-2022 season over the summer. We need spots filled ASAP! Remember, you receive a point towards your letter jacket when you participate in GO Flags. Thank you to those that have helped and continue to do so. Choir Officers for 22-23 or those interested in running for officer the following year should consider participating. Thank you for leading by example. The more people that participate, the more money we receive for the choir. Use the link below to sign up. GO Flags Memorial Day-July 4th

We have TWO more GO Flag placements for this school year. Memorial Day (5/28 & 6/4) and July 4th (7/2 & 7/9). These are very hard to have staffed but we need your help. Memorial Day only needs a few more volunteers but July 4th needs over 40. Please consider signing up to help. Earn you letter jacket points and help raise money for the choir program at the same time.

Banquet Sign Up

Choir Banquet will be on Friday, May 20 at 7 PM in the GOHS Cafeteria! This year’s theme is 80’s!

Spring Trip Parent/Student Mtg

There will be a meeting for trip participants on Monday, April 4 at 6:30 pm on zoom. Parents and Students should be in attendance. If both cannot be present, at least one must be in attendance to receive the information for the upcoming 3 day trip to the Austin area. Below is the meeting information to log in for the zoom. Pre UIL Concert

A week from tonight is our Pre-UIL Concert in the GOHS Auditorium. The concert will begin at 7:00 as stated on the calendar sent home last semester and the updated calendar sent home before spring break. (You can find that on the choir website under documents) This is a major test grade and attendance is required. Missing results in a failing grade as live concerts cannot be made up. 

The dress/uniform for Pre-UIL is going to be the choir shirt, jeans, and close toed shoes. This year’s shirt is the light gray shirt. Jeans should be nice in appearance and have no holes or rips on them. Shoes need to be normal and close toed for stage safety. Sandals, crocs, heels, etc. are not appropriate foot wear.

Call time for the concert is 5:30pm. The auditorium will be open for the general audience at 6:45pm. If you have a conflict or issue, please communicate that with the choir directors ASAP and before the day of the concert. We will not be answering questions on Tuesday, the day of. Please take care of any concert business 24 hours or more in advance.
