October 2019

Welcome to the month of October. I, for one, am amazed it is already here. The last weeks have just flown by and before you know it, we will be at Thanksgiving break.

The fall concert was great! I am so proud of every choir and their hard work to learn the music so quickly. Most choir programs won’t have a fall concert until mid-October so going in September is pretty impressive!

October 3: Fall Festival of Choirs
This is a combined concert featuring choirs from Grand Oaks, York, Clark, and Cox.
A Cappella and Statesmen are the choirs performing from GOHS.
The concert begins at 7 pm and all are welcome to attend
GOHS students that are performing need to wear choir shirt, jeans, shoes and the call time is once again 5 pm to set up the stage for the other schools to practice.

October 15: Mock Auditions for Region participants
The students who are moving to the Region Auditions on Oct. 19 will have mock auditions the Tuesday after the 3-day weekend. Please come to the choir room straight after school so we can begin ASAP.

October 16: Spirit Day @ Crust Pizza
Booster Club Spirit Day at Crust Pizza on Rayford Road ALL DAY
Make sure you drop your receipt in the jar to help out the booster club which comes back to our students. Tell your neighbors and family members to visit Crust that day!

October 17: York Choir Concert
We will be hosting York JH Choir that evening. Concert begins at 7 pm. Officers are called at 5 pm to set up the stage. Any student wanting to help set up is welcome.

October 19: Region Auditions @ Klein Forest
Information for participants will be given out at Mock Auditions
We will travel by bus to the auditions. Please plan on dropping off your student at GOHS by 6:30 that morning.

Woodforest Concessions

If you signed up to work concessions, please click the link for final placements. If you are working this THURSDAY September 19, please read below:

Arrival: 5:00 pm arrival for 5-6 people to get trained on what to do. All others arrive by 5:45. If you can be there at 5 pm, please be there then. Parents need to be trained on using the registers. Students will be running food/drinks.

Clothing: Please wear last years choir shirt or a Grand Oaks spirit shirt. I would suggest shorts as it will be warm. Please wear closed toed shoes! Sandals are not allowed!

Hair: Long hair must be pulled back into a braid, pony, etc. It must be up and out of the face.

Time: Depending on the length of the game, you will most likely be working until after 9 pm and they hope to have you all out by 10 pm at the latest.

Getting into the gates: Park or drop off near the entrance closest to the scoreboard or jumbo-tron. There is an entrance for workers etc. at that gate and they will have a list of names. Tell them your name and you will then be able to get in free of charge.

Welcome to September

The choirs are off to a fantastic start for the 19-20 school year. We are making sounds and preparing for our first concert in just a few short weeks.

This past Tuesday was the parent meeting and many of you showed up. Thank you for supporting your student and our choir. Whether you were at the meeting or not, all students should now have the choir handbook, choir year calendar, emergency form, acknowledgement form, and technology form. Please look over those items and return the EMERGENCY FORM (white) & ACKNOWLEDGEMENT/TECHNOLOGY FORM (red) completely filled out. Students will be unable to do anything off campus until the forms are turned in. Forms were due August 30th.

Inside of the handbook you will read information covering numerous topics. Please familiarize yourself, especially with policies regarding attendance and expectations. There is also a choir fee, so read up on that and make sure you pay it!

The GO Flags fundraiser is off to a great start. There are almost 1,000 subscriptions in the Grand Oaks zone! We need parent/student drivers and students to help bring the flags around the area on August 31 and help with pick up on September 2. Any parent or student that drives and has a student or 2 with them will help tremendously! It should take no more than 2 hours with enough volunteers and drivers. **Mr. Smith will be driving and helping** If we are to be recipients of funds from GO Flags we must do our part to help deliver and pick up. Please click the link to sign up and help!

Woodforest Stadium Concessions:
We have been given two dates to work the concessions at Woodforest Stadium this football season. We need 6 adults and 15 or more student helpers to efficiently run the concessions. Without enough volunteers we won’t be able to keep the date assigned. This is a great way to make money for the program which comes back to the kids! Consider signing up. It is a really fun time! I’ll be there working so come join!

GO Flags Fundraiser/Spirit Wear Orders

Grand Oaks Fine Arts have been blessed by GO Flags! This organization is working to give back to our students through American Flag yard placements throughout the school year. Subscriptions can be purchased and designated for choir, band, orchestra, theatre, or drill team. The money from those subscriptions goes straight to our organizations! It is a wonderful program being led by parents of students at GOHS.

For this to run smoothly and efficiently, GO Flags needs student and parent help to get our first run off the ground, which is for Labor Day in September. The next few Saturdays GO Flags and any volunteers available will be helping prepare flag holders and piece together the flags.

Below is a sign up link to help with assembly. Instructions on the sign up have what items to bring to help (if you have them) and other tools that will be available for you to use for set up.

Please consider signing up below!!
